Default please help with cam belt change

i had belt on and off 4 time today every time the car wouldnt start maybe the odd splutter, ive been doing it by the marks on pullys to marks on the block,,,,,,,,,,,am i suposed to be doing it by the lines on the belt????any info will help cheers

did the car run ok before you changed the belt?

If you have just had a head gasket done, then have the cams been put back in correctly. I know they can be swapped and it would certainly explain a brief splutter before dieing

mostlikely used the arrow rather than the notch on the crank pulley
