Cambelt Change
Just had a quote for changing the cambelt from my local garage in Bushey. They've quoted my £375+vat which includes the tensioner, 4 idlers and the belt plus 2 hours labour.
According to MOCOMs website, they'll do it for £175 - I assume that they don't automatically change the idlers and tensioner.
The question I have is do the idlers and tensioners need to be changed or should they only be changed on condition? Also, should I be getting the water pump done at the same time as the belt is off or should this also be done on condition.
Cheers
Jon

From experience, there is no need to renew all the Idlers & the Tensioner when carrying out a cam belt change. The items fitted by the factory are very good & should only be changed on condition.
Just as well really, as the cost of the genuine items (tensioner, 4 idlers and the belt) come to 468.53 + VAT + 2.0hrs Labour
The water pumps are also pretty bomb proof so there is no need to disturb that side of things.

Depending on mileage you could consider having your crank seal changed, its only a few £'s but the cam belt needs to be removed to do it. I had a new cam belt fitted at 45K and then another at 65K because the crank seal was leaking. I supplied the belt (Gates £59.99) and a local Jap specialist charged me £108 inc for the fitting.

There is such a thing as too cheap!
Would you choose to have a vascectomy from the cheapest place possible?
After you Son...
While you're at it, if there is any hint of a leak from the front pulley seal, remove the oil pump and tighten up the rear screws while it's easy to get at. They come loose and pee oil all over. If it's bone dry, don't bother fixing it as it isn't broken.
