Cam belt
My wrx is coming up for it's major service, the cam tensioner is it hydraulic or a simple bolt with an offset bearing affair?
Also the cam pulleys are they the usual fixed type, i head somewhere that on one side they are free spinning and need to be locked into place or can they be moved provided you line the crank etc to the timing marks?
cheers

They're all hydraulic, although there's 2 different types - 92-97 have a seperate tensioner unit and bearing, and 98 onwards have a 1 piece item (although the bearing can still be removed from the tensioner, IYSWIM )
When you time the engine up to remove the belt, you'll find the N/S Cam Pulleys are on lobe but can be set in place in order to refit - easy if your belt comes with timing marks
Some people clamp the 2 N/S pulleys with mole grips, but this is NOT RECOMMENDED, especially if you have the bakelight ones fitted.

Thanks, i had a nose at my manual and it's all there about the timing marks etc.
I might leave it to the garage as im being tempted to buy the cdf pullies, we'll see.
Using a dial gauge would naturally be an engine out job.
