How do I improve the performance of MY94 WRX?
#1
Hi, newbie Scooby owner alert (lol)!!
Not long bought a '94 WRX, relatively standard spec -
-STi rear exhaust
-'boost controller'....looks just like a bleed valve to me . I *need* to get a boost gauge to know what boost it's running. I dont like bleed valves, is the fuel rate altered to match boost pressure?
-K+N filter
Recently rolling roaded/tuned at PowerStation, 242bhp & 212lbs torque.
Feels 'quick' but I want more .
Any suggestions as to how I can improve performane (on a budget!).
Cheers.

From: 1600cc's of twin scroll fun :)
Well you can go for a nice scoobymania 3 inch system (full decat) for around 550 quid, get a boost controller etc and set your boost levels, should push you up to around 270bhp, get your car chipped with a knocklink etc... just have 5k handy cos your going to need better brakes too!! (so that means bigger wheels etc) but 242bhp aint bad though, try running optimax thou it may give you a few more bhp to boot

Hi,
I have a MY95 WRX (same 240bhp engine as yours).
Mods:
BPM Twin-Dump Downpipe (3in)
HKS Hiper 3in Exhaust System
K&N induction kit
I use Optimax fuel and NF octane booster on RR days.
Yesterday at Power Engineering my car produced 298bhp and 242 lb/ft torque vvvvv pleased with that!
I would move to a nice 3in straight through exhaust system, my combo seems to work very well.
Cheers

also have a 94 WRX and my mods list went like this;
larger air filter (K & N)
straight thru exhaust (?group N)
upgraded brakes (greenstuff EBC)
lower suspension (Kingsprings 16.5mm clearance)
Possumlink ECU (tuned at Possum Bournes)
run on 98 octane
- figures achieved 128kw (approx 300bhp at wheel) and 480Nm torque (350 lbs/ft).

Thanks for the info people .
Just got in after meeting an Audi RS4 on a nice, long stretch of empty road....it was noticeably quicker, and murdered me after 100mph .
Then again I have only had the car a few days and need to get used to it.....but I doubt that even with plenty of practice I would've kept with the RS4. The car seems a bit gutless over 100mph. Gearing or outright bhp?
Tony, I'm running on Optimax (where possible). No use of Octane booster, yet .
So it looks like a straight through exhaust (Midland Impreza do a complete de-cat system for £320) is 1st on the shopping list, then possibly a chip/re-boost.
Still really pleased with the car mind, I really do have to get used to the very light steering feel. I find that with the wheel being heavily power assisted, that I'm unsure of when the front loses traction (which it does, understeers). I prefer a heavy even dull feel which seems to give more feedback....i dunno maybe i am talking boll-*** .
