Hi guys,
I have just been told that the head gasket on my 1995 WRX has gone. I have quoted £700 for both gaskets parts and labour. I just need some advice really, firstly is it worth doing and if so how long will it last? The mechanic says 3-4 months and then i'l have problems agian? Is this true? Thanks.

I had the heads reconditioned when mine went and that came to around £1000. What part of the country are you in? Imo you`d be better going to a specialist
I used Alan Jeffery - Engine Tuner in Plymouth for mine

Just had mine done at API, think it is 700 +vat for the head gaskets, I had some other bits done while there as it is as good a time as any to fit a lighter flywheel and clutch ect...
Think they only fit the steel gaskets to all classics as they are better (mines an sti so had them anyway). Very happy with the work and care taken and should last for another 60k.

reason for the going bang after 3 months is cos of the crank bearings failing i should think. can happen if the engine temps get hot whent he gasket goes.

And that is why another of the 'jobs' I had done was to fit ACL race bearings to the big ends and mains, preventative more than anything. Trouble is where do you stop once you have the engine open.
