Default missing a key from a dealer-advice

Hi- bought a 54 plate impreza wrx from subaru few months ago.

came with one key. dealer told me the last owner would post it on to them, then I'd get it. Hasn't happened.

They now tell me, they will program up a blank key and give this too me.

I'm unhappy because last owner, imo still has the key.

How exactly do all these electronic keys work ? Can I trust them that they will basically re-set both keys etc and it will all be new and secure to my car: or will the previous owner still have a chance of getting access ?

Its dragged on a bit- as I live so far from the dealership- i.e making a 40 mile round journey to be arsed going there to keep shouting.

cheers

Tell them you'll be bringing the car back for a full refund as they're trying to change the contract after the fact.

Either that or they change the lock set.

would the key still open the door manually- even if re-programmed (albeit) it may set the alarm off.

I had similar but bought from specialist rather than dealer. To get a spare made I had to take my key to Subaru as they re-program all keys - if the key that may or may not be with the ex-owner is not given in for reprogramming, it will not work is my understanding. It cost me about £150 for this spare.

when you code a new key you have to code all the keys at the same time so when they code it the old owners key wont start the car, sure it will allow him to open the door but if they also recode the sigma side which they will have to do as well then he won't be able to turn the alarm off either unless he knows the 4 digit code.

so unless the locks are changed as well-with this old- random key- you could open the doors and get in, regardless of that setting the alarm off.

Yes, but then you could put a brick through the window and do the same, keys are irrelevant really!
