Default Re-map Question

I have a hawkeye STI with PPP, which I have fully de-cated.

Since then When I put my foot down in say 4th or 5th and at around 4.5 - 5k revs and the car is really boosting it seems to suddenly back off and throw the management light on. I think it is probably overboosting???

Does this mean the car needs to be Re-mapped to the new exhaust system?

Im confused as someone I know is running the same system on exactly the same car, also with PPP, and his car is very powerfull since the de-cat and very driveable, im scared to put my foot down in mine incase i cause some damage???

Can anyone help?

sounds like it is indeed hitting fuel cut due to overboost and ideally needs mapping.

As your friends car demonstrates, no two cars are the same and hence why custom mapping is best suited for tuning subarus.

Would it be best to have the car Re-mapped to the current setup or go back to the PPP exhaust system?

I want to be sure before I go spending a lot of money on a re-map.

Any help is greatly appreciated and people experiences of re-maps, as im a newbie to this.

Thanks

depends what you want..

obviously simple and cheapest solution would be to refit ppp exhaust..

however a remap would make the car more responsive and gain you power and torque..

this is possible with standard PPP car, in theory decatted exhaust would give great gains.

If I get the car Re-mapped would it be safe still for the engine and reliable?

Thanks Simon, sounds like its just what I need.

Will hopefully get that sorted, as the car is hardly driveable above 4.5k revs at the moment.

What is the average cost of a re-map?

I bet your car is throwing up a P0244 error code to go with that engine light.

It's fairly common in decatted MY06 cars...

P0244 - caused by the boost cut - there is a table that sets this value but dont just raise it, the wastegate duty cycles need to be changed as you have de-restricted the exhaust and will hit boost much easier than standard.
If you want guarantees go with the PPP system, if you find yourself wanting more and are prepared to gamble with your warranty get it remapped. The overboost is easily corrected. FWIW I fall into the later
