Ok I am not sure if my cambelt has been done or not, this is why.
The previous owner had the car serviced early at 46k miles.
at 50k you should have the cambelt done.
anyway he said he had the cambelt done, but I cant find any receipt to say it has.
Is there any way to tell just by looking at the belt if its been changed???
would the writing wear off on an old one ??
It looks in good order no cracks or anything but I dont know what I should be looking for.
any ideas? thanks

Had a similar scenario recently mate with an import, no document history although under the bonnet on the cambelt casing there was a sticker with the kilometre reading at the time it was changed. If there's no proof anywhere tho for sure as above dont chance it

Very hard to change without putting a few dings in the back of the radiator. Dings would suggest it might have been done but not much help really. Best to change again if unsure and take on the chin as breakage is disaster.

Do you have any service history? I.e. Where the previous owner got it serviced? Might be worth a call to the garage, they may have records themselves.

Regarding the sticker thing, its a very Japanese thing to do, I.e. if changed in the UK I doubt a sticker would have been put on.

i have a classic import and cant tell whether the cambelt has been changed either! belt looks 'ok' but the sticker is nowhere to be seen - although there is an outline of a sticker so maybe like there has been a sticker on there and its been taken off?! cars just done 71k

Thats a difficult one to call mate, if its only done 71'000 kilometres i would say no. i know a few other owners nearby who bought or imported and the belts and oil were perfectly acceptable but they changed them anyway for peace of mind. Fine i guess if u have the time and budget but otherwise i guess many people want to get start modding asap and commit their £ to that.
