Default Replacing 1998 uk turbo ecu with 2000 ecu

Hi there I'm new to this forum. I have had my subaru for just over a year and fancy more power. I was wondering if the ecu from my 98 uk turbo can be replaced with one from a later classic which I in turn would get remapped.
I'd imagine keys would need reprogrammed but was just wondering if anyone has advice on this subject.
thanks for your time.

as Martyn says.. you can't.. the plugs are different.. however even if it plugged in the engine sensors, idle control are all different amoung other things..

aftermarket ecu needed.

i dont like non maf based systems like simtek, gems, link, etc...

for an every day driving car i find the maf system much easier to live with as cold start, idle etc can be a nightmare, they cut out when cold and if you knock the car off before fully warm it wont start again!

most of this is down to mapping of cold start and cold idle, non of the mappers seem to do this as it means letting the car go stone cold before setting it up.

that is less of an issue with the new generation map ecu's.. Simtek, Link G3 etc.. GEMs is getting a bit long in the tooth now and can be a nightmare to get cold start spot on.

you are correct in that it is difficult to see the car cold.. once started once or twice it is warm enough to not be the same as a cold morning start anymore, and you cannot map the cold start and then do the hot as you need to set up the global parameters when the engine is hot etc..

I always offer to revisit if there is an issue with cold start etc.. and very rarely have to.
