can you be more specific?
what model, any mods and when it jolted was it like hitting a brick wall or was it like misfire or hesitation?

98 uk turbo.74000 miles.its not a big jolt.a bit like a misfire or something.once it as happened it will carry on as normal.
could it be something to do with when the turbo starts to spin.
when i put my foot down more gradual it didnt happen

most likely the fuel cut it does this if its over boosting its normal you can get a fuel cut defender for 100 quid to stop it happening, mine does it if i floor it in 5th but as you say if you floor it gradually it wont do it.

With over boosting normally happens when under the most load, ie 4th/5th gear at motorway speeds and you floor it. Fuel cut happens to protect the engine from this excess boost and feels like "hitting a brick wall" and only lasts for a split second.
Due to the way you have described the symptoms so far I would think that johnnyroper maybe more along the right lines.
