Question Burning oil smell from heater - is this true?

Hi All,

Just been to see a '98/R plate Scooby with 81K. The seller said that the smell from the heater was tiny drops of oil from the tops of the cylinders which seep out during high revs and drop directly onto the exhaust/hot section of the engine. He said there were loads of threads about it here but I can't find any except ones relating to more serious leaks.

What do you think?

Thanks All

It could mean the rocker cover gasgets are leaking and need replacing. There should be no unusual smells when in the car from the heater.

Although this is a common problem and not to difficult to fix IF its the offside gasget

My old scood had the rocker cover leak, and as said, the oil drops onto the headers, and burns. I only realised this when i smelt it through the air vents(heater).
It's a £100 job(ish!)
