Paid 330 for a clutch in the wifes forester so I think thats a bit steep. same engine etc. suggest you shop around a bit to see.

I had a quote for a 2002 sti for £300 just to supply the clutch assy. They said it was this high as sometimes the flywheel has to be modified to fit a new clutch.Maybe yours needs to be modified ???? The place I got this quote from is a respected subaru tuner, they needed the chassis number and had to ring a subaru main dealer with this info to see if the mod needed to be done .

Sounds like there may be nothing wrong with it at all. The idle is supposed to be high after startup, do you not remember cars with a choke?! As for the notchyness, they can be like that, especially when cold. A dead clutch will be juddery and possible start slipping.

As above! Dosn't sound like a dodgy clutch to me!

For future reference: A clutch change is not a cheap job on a scooby though. Figure on best part of 300 for a good clutch, and 4 hours labour to fit.

If its a main dealer then the price is kind of expected. Again as stated above, if your clutch isnt slipping or juddery then you should be fine. You mite find that if you give it a bit of a "boot" once the cars warm, gear changes wont feel as notchy.

I also have an 04 WRX, it does exactly the same, so did the Hawkeye I testdrove before buying my car. I wouldn't worry about it mate.
I'd only shell out that kind of money when it actually goes and you know something is wrong, not before.

I have just had a new clutch (Exedy 'pink') and lightweight flywheel put in my WRX - cost of clutch and fly was less than £600 but then you have got to factor in labour. The flywheel is the best mod I have every made! Suggest you shop around - there are planty of other options to you.
