I have managed to snap the top plastic part of the cam shaft sensor whilst trying to take it out. The main metal part of it is stuck in the hole. Any ideas why it didn't just pull out? and any ideas how I can get the rest of it out?

 

Remove the plastic cover to reveal the belt & cam pullies. There are only 3 10mm bolts. Then you might be able to lever it out without removing the inlet cam wheel. You'll need a L shaped tool.

take the cooling fans out,remove the a/c belt and adjuster,remove the n/s cam cover,turn the engine over with the 22mm bolt in the crank pully until you can see the other side of the sensor though the n/s inlet pully,gently tap out the sensor with a drift/punch,then install the new one,and refit componets.

 

Thanks for those ideas, I have taken off the alternator to get better access but it still won't come out . I will have a go with your suggestions tomorrow.

 

ahhh you mean crank sensor then not cam
