Question TURBO BOOST GAUGES - WHICH IS BEST ???

Are fully electrical air code movement type boost gauges a lot more accurate than mechanical vacuum pipe-based ones? How do these air code movement ones work as such, etc.?

Thanks, John

Air core ?
Just a voltmeter and a pressure sensor....
A damped "vacuum" type could be good enough, electrical ones claim to be super accurate.... but it isn't that crucial in a car.
For big money it's stepper motors and digital fiddling (Defi/Stack)....

IMHO

So I don't really need to concern myself over the two types - they both pretty much do the same job re. approximate accuracy, then.

Thanks for the reply .

A fancy Stack digital gauge "may" be more accurate than the "bent tube" version that looks the same.... but costs double !

You are after a "measure" of the boost not a hyper-accurate 0.01 resolution reading.

IMHO

P.S. Only as I push mine towards 400 bhp am I starting to want to monitor things like AFR/EGT/Boost and fuel pressure.

Nah, not concered with mega accuracy to the milli-psi/bar! I have a PP/ESL chip running 1.1 bar, so nothing much to worry about... I just want something in my general eyeline to be 'subconsciously' aware of any rogue overboost/boost spikes .

I'll invariablly opt for an electrical air core movement, 270-degree, 2.0 bar scale gauge, where the 1.0 to 1.1 bar markings just happen to be sited at the 12-o'clock position - for easy, quick-glance monitoring .

Thanks a lot for your input mate

i got a Greddy electronic on mine, pretty accurate. Glad i had it, picked up my serious overboost problem.

You've got it dead right fella, just an indication not 0.01 % accurate, I will get round to fitting one soon !

LOL
