Question Tips on replacing headgaskets/removing engine/finding parts

Hi

As described in my other thread:
https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...lp-my-wrx.html

Plan for this weekend is to remove the engine and remove the heads to inspect for damage.....

Any tips on removing engine, heads and sourcing parts... cheapest place for gaskets and bolts?cambelt? rocker gasket? looked on ebay, a shop called performance parts, do metal gaskets for 55 quid!

also

on a bug eye? does the engine come out the top or can i drop it on the floor through the bottom? best to get a engine hoist?

Cheers people! wish me luck

Engine comes out the top, hoist would be a good move.
Try Api, Lateral and Zen for parts, use oe headgaskets. Also check your head for warpage. Headbolts can be reused.
Good luck.

Use a hoist or you have to remove the complete sub frame,

You will need to pull the clutch pivot arm before it comes out, after you remove the starter motor you will see a plug on the side of the gearbox, it will be a large allen key type (about 12mm i think?) undo this and then you will need a 10mm bolt, it will screw into the center of the clutch pivot arm inside the housing and you just pull it out with pliers on the 10mm bolt head.

When refitting you will need to take off the clutch release bearing from the pressure plate and fit it to the gearbox first with the pivot arm in place, after the engine has been fitted, you will need to give the clutch actuating arm a hefty shove to re-engage the bearing in the pressure plate
