Default Garret GT30 + 1000ccm injectors question

My friend is going to install Garret GT30 turbo and 1000ccm injectors on MY06 STI. Until now car was on 340hp (EcuTek remap, turboback exhaust). He wants about 370hp because of stock internals (for now). What are you think about size of injectors. Is it to large or...? Thanks

far to large, I have 650cc (maxed out) on my 04sti running approx 450bhp

is the gt30 a hybrid for stock mounting position?
the stock 2.5 is capable of 400/400.

1000cc are humongus for that spec, arn't 1000cc designed for 800bhp+

550's should run that or even better 650's as sugested for a bit of spare headroom

I've got a GT30R (rotated not bolt on) with the larger 0.82 housing on my 2.5and I m using 740cc injectors and have plenty of headroom lovely idle and decent off boost fuel economy.

Previously these injectors were on when I was using a VF28,

1000cc are massive over kill.

The best injectors bar non are the modified 550's that mark from Lateral Sells.

They idle great and give plenty of scope for big power. 1000cc will be horrendous and the fuel bills will be ridiuclous!!!

O.k. I understand that now. Thanks. Another question is, if he install them (1000ccm) is it safe for the motor or he can expect some problems?

I'm sure it will be safe but it will run like a pig, be absolutely horrible off boost and you'll be looking at around a £1 per mile for fuel.

Not even the big power boys use this set up. For big fuel demands they use 8injectors on four rails.

Personally I think 1000cc injectors is the wrong road to go down.

His current injectors will be fine for his 370bhp target.

Incedently my stock internalled EJ257 was running at 452 bhp (1.4bar) with my 740's and it was lovely to drive.

Perhaps people want to actually find out for themselves first hand before stating 1000cc injectors are bad and wrong.

I run 1150cc injectors on a GT30 hybrid. Why? Because my tuner does not want to mess around with raising fuel pressures and the purchase of additional regulators. I can't say Tracktive Solutions had any issues mapping the car on these injectors either using the HYDRA EMS.

At over 530bhp/550lbft my car drives AS WELL as it did with the previous standard set-up (standard pinks) whilst on the HYDRA ECU.

If fuel bills will be horrendous, then perhaps we should not discuss injector duty cycle and of course the different types of spray pattern that you can get dependant on the injector nozzle. BTW... my car still returns around 200 miles to the tank..... yes and that is on a 50litre Spec C tank!

I can assure you, mine does not drive like a pig, is not horrible off boost and my fuel consumption is a lot better than most on ScoobyNet running a lot less power.

I am not suggesting that you have not got the option of increasing fuel pressure for scope on smaller injectors, but by no means is having 1000cc a sure fire way to have a bag'o'****. You do need to find the right large injector (they are not all the same) and you do need to spend the time on getting the mapping right.

Again, I am not saying go with 1000cc injectors, but I am saying there is nothing wrong with them if the right ones are chosen and the mapper knows what he is doing!

Its ludicrous overkill at 530bhp never mind the 370 target the OP has.

I've been in a dozen or so cars with injectors upwards of 850cc's and whilst alot of it is to do with mapping and of course decent injector selection. The OP's aims just DO NOT require 1000cc injectors.

This isn't from being in just one car.

I know its not a like for like comparison but my best mate has a Norris evo.
2.2 with 1000cc injectors.
It idles at 1600 rpm and fuel consumption is anything but good.

£20 quid in the tank 20 - 30 miles on a reasonable run and the light is back on.

Surely you're not advocating these for use on what is clearly a road car!!!

I'm also sure if you used yours everyday Shaun you'd soon bin those ridiculously big injectors for something a bit more suitable and that are used by people with considerably better performing and quicker cars than yours Shaun.
The Modified 550's from Mark spring to mind here

My post was in response to your statement about 1000cc injectors.

Regardless of who's car you have been in mate, they DO run absolutely fine in my car.... I can not speak for others, but my car does return 200 miles to a tank. I think I can appreciate what the fuel consumption and running is on these injectors..... I have had them running in the car for over 5000 miles.

I can't speak for others conversions and can obviously only remark on my own.

Would I advocate these for a every day road car..... why not, they work absolutely fine in mine, round town on a run, whatever you ask the car to do. But I did make it quite clear that there are others ways to achieve the same result (as you suggest).

You have said they will be bad on fuel and make the car run bad.... that is simply NOT true in my case.

I can run my car at the low boost setting of 1bar (which is circa 420bhp).... and it does not make a slight bit of difference to how the car performs. So obviously the power is not an issue.

Why has the fact that others with quicker cars than me are running smaller injectors anything worth shouting about, apart from the fact that there is more than one way to skin a cat..... with the same results.

You drive my car and you would never know what size injectors are in it, either by driveability or fuel consumption.

Iain Litchfield got them from a company in the USA. They promised we would not experience any running issues (they were a new design), and I think they have something like a 12 hole nozzle on them. They also supplied all the latency information for the mapping etc.

Best speak to Iain..... I just drive the bloody thing!
