Hi Folks,

I am a newbie Subaru owner, just picked up a completely standard wrx wagon bugeye (52 plate) and am thinking of a few mods.

As a former Alfa owner I know how helpful the owner forums can be, so would welcome your feedback/advice on a couple of mods. (also this is the only Subaru forum where everybody isn't comparing d*ck size and actually offering good advice!)

1) ECU - is it possible to reamp the ECU so that the turbo kicks in at lower revs (say 1800 to 2000 revs) at the expense of top end? Sounds daft but the car will be used by my wife as a baby wagon so drivability at low revs is more important than top end

2) Air filter - are there any noticeable benefits of fitting a K&N or similar panel filter without a remap? and which one is best?

To aid spool up is more to do with the turbo and exhaust gas flow rather than ecu but with supporting mods it could be be mapped for i think.

"Green" panel filters have a good rep.

 

A few suitable mods and a remap will bring spool times down, Things like free flow exhausts sport/decat downpipe, should spool fairly quickly then with a remap.

Will a WRX pass an MOT with a decat? (remove one cat and leave the other?) I was looking to keep the standard exhaust as it is nice and quiet (althought I do love the scooby burble)
