Two pipes-what do they do?

Two pipes-what do they do?
Hi all, i've been having a nightmare day fitting my new de cat downpipe.
First problem is the small vacume pipe on top of the throttle body snapped and is perished,secondly the hose which goes from the bottom union on the boost sol to the intake resonator box has sheared off the box.
What do these two pipes do? can i block either of these till i get the new parts?
I have to say subaru really don't want you to take the cat off do they! So much to take off,ie the turbo heat shield and top cat mounting bolts,both of which are a right pain!
Also,to rub salt in, the new pipe turbo mounting holes didn't line up right,had to drill them out. But i spose thats what happens when you buy ebay rubbish.

Hi, no i've not got a dawes device. I went for a spin just now, the car is soooo loud!! Not sue if i can put up with it to be honest. The other thing is my boost sol is really making some noise,thought it was a loose belt at first,but it's a high pitch ticking,which is most noticeable when letting off.
Could this be as the vent(bottom pipe) isn't connected? I need to tap a new union into the resonator box to re attach this pipe,as mine's broken off.
