Ive been told that i need to clean my actuator which may help a problem that i have on my my95 sti. Trouble is i dont no what it looks like, what it does and how to clean it. I get a sudden jerk in 5th gear if i floor it hard. The plugs have been changed and the cars been serviced. can any1 help?

It's the small cylinder attached via a bracket to the compressor (the matt silver bit of your turbo) and by a thin rod to a small lever on the rusty side of your turbo. (turbine).
How you would go about cleaning it though, I wouldn't have a clue, the actuator mechanism is made up of a pressure sensitive diaphragm which is sensitive to messing around with, so you will probably end up causing more issues.
My guess on a car of your age is the actuator has badly corroded and needs replacing. For the price of a new actuator, you could probably pick up a 2nd hand turbo.

The boost solenoid can be found on the front of the offside suspension turret and looks like the one in the pic in the thread below:

The boost solenoid pulses the boost signal to the actuator, which in turn activates the wastegate in your turbo hence controlling boost.
If your boost solenoid is gunked up, then it will be allowing insufficient signal to the actuator, which will then not respond in time, which will not open the wastegate sufficiently which will then lead to the 'sudden jerk' or fuel cut that you are experiencing.
Use brake cleaner to clean it out.

Disconnect the hoses, electrical connections and then take off it's bracket. It's best to clean it in a little container, you dont want to be getting that nasty stuff all over everything.
Just remember which hose goes where, otherwise you will be posting up on here again...
