Unhappy Have I killed my engine? Please help

Yesterday I was out in my bugeye jdm sti and I was driving hard in 6th gear when I lost nearly all power. When I pulled over the car was still running, but idling at 1500 rpm and sounded like it wasn't firing on all cylinders. There were no loud bangs or knocks when it started and it didn't get any worse on driving home (about 2 miles).

When I lifted the bonnet there is a smallish patch of oil on it above the turbo to the left of the intercooler.

Has anyone any idea of what might be wrong? I could really do with some help on this one.

Thanks

Is the oil coming out of the intercooler pipe? Is it smoking a little?
If it is sounds like your turbo may have blown the seals.

Take the intercooler off and see if the pips are full of oil. Its normal to have a bit in there but not lots.

Thanks for replying. There's no engine light on and it isn't smoking. The temperature is also stable and no oil warning lights are on. I'll remove the intercooler later and see whats going on with the pipes in regards to oil. I'm kind of hoping I have just blown the turbo seals and not done any real damage now.

I've removed most of the pipes off my intercooler and nearly all of them have oil in them. One of them was very loose(virtually hanging off) which had the most in.

What is a normal amount of oil to have in pipes?

Is there any way to test for a blown turbo?

You say one pipe was loose on the intercooler, that would be enough to cause the troubles you had. Wipe inside them, refit and try it out.
I had a similiar thing happen myself a couple of years ago, forgot to tighten one clamp up after doing some work, went out late, gave it some gas and same happened, lost power, pulled over and hose was off!

Thanks mate. I've now got a glimmer of hope that i'm not gonna be skint for the forseable future!

Is it normal though to have about two or three drips of oil coming out of a hose? I did also notice a small pool of oil sitting just below the front of the intercooler.

Sounds as though you had a hose off, as suggested if all hoses have been returned to correct position then try and see, its very normal to have oil coating the inside of all the pipework from the turbo to the engine.

cheers

If you're experiencing overboost, don't rag the car , especially in the lower gears, mate. Keep things nice and steady til you can see Bob to get the issue resolved.

When did the overboost begin? After a modification?
