VF35 will spool up loads faster than the 22 but will prob have less top end power.

VF35 will give around that power but spool will be better than the lardy VF22.

i'm sure u would need a remap as a friend of mine did the same swap and end up with the biggest hole in his engine i've ever seen

LOL, I'm fully aware of remaps (check out my project post in the Wales section).

The question was for a mate who has a P1 and is having it mapped in May. He has been offered a VF35, but he is unsure if it would make any difference on the turbo he has already got???

VF28 is a good turbo but the VF35 is a step up in my opinion. Whether it is a big enough step up to warrant the effort of changing and remapping is down to personal choice.

Don't compare 2.5 litre spool with 2 litre spool. On the 2 litre, the VF22 is lardy compared to VF23/24/28/35.

As Harvey says ... also, the VF22 is the most fragile VF series turbo and the most likely to break.

Bob/Harvey,

Am I correct in thinking the VF35 is much more robust than previous VF series..?

Also, it does seem to have the best spool characteristics (v's other VF's), so how would it compare to a TD05 18g for low down response (2.0l)..?

Jason,

I've just ditched the dumpvalve on mine and it's fine.

Will leave the comparsions with the 18G to people like Bob who know, but I've seen several on here make the upgrade and haven't complained too much about loss of response, increased boost threshold etc.. The 18G is capable of higher outputs though, so some detriment in the above is to be expected I'd imagine.

The only thing with the 35 is that the price to pay for the excellent spool appears to be that it is rather surge prone.

The VF35 is more robust than the likes of VF28,24, 23 and certainly VF22.
05 18G or VF35??? A good 18G will have more headline figure but as to the actual difference in spool I would not like to say because I have seen examples of both perform better and worse so it is more down to the mods on the car in question.
