I guess the very minimum is replacing pistons, but there may be wear to the bore as well. Either way you're looking at a complete strip down (heads off).
I don't know how quickly these engines transfer from mild slap to ring and bore damage but I've had a car that had slap for many years. First few seconds of engine starting meant I had to turn the radio up a little to cure it, then about 30 seconds later, the cure (radio) could be removed and all was well. Saved me a fortune.

Although it is unpleasant to hear, piston slap usually subsides as the engine warms. The engine can run with piston slap for thousands of miles with no detrimental effects so think carefully before you embark on a cure that is likely to cost £600-£1,000 depending on what is found when the engine is stripped.

If they are forged pistons like in an sti or suchlike, then under normal working conditions, when cold they will slap, some pistons like cosworth ones, are quite often noisy all the time!, but looking at your car if its a wrx engine slap is not so common, has it always done it? has it just started out of the blue?, are there any running probs with the car? chances are it probably will not cause too much of a problem for you.
