MY06 WRX, Fluttering Noise
Hi guys
Right im after trying to find out about a noise i have.
ive had it since i had the car, but i can hear it more since the weather has been warming up.
when i accelerate, i get a fluttering sound from the engine/turbo . upto about 2500rpm/3000rpm, and then it stops, it stops as i get full boost.
sounds a bit like a 2 stroke go kart. (its the best way describe it, not as bad)
been back to prosport when i 1st had it serviced, and was advised they couldnt hear anything out of order, but since then its louder.
read on here people do seem to have the same noise, but no one has advised what it is.
a subaru specialist, advised that he has had someone who has had their ECUtek map done, complain of a fluttering noise very loud once he had his car mapped, so i am thinking something to do with the turbo / induction etc..
any ideas
cheers

My 03STI did this more so in higher gears under heavy acceleration.
Andy F posted a reply stating that it was quite normal so I was satisfied.
Others soon followed his response.
As you say it is turbo flutter, or atleast that's what mine appeared to be..

Also noticed that some of the fuel I used made it a bit better or worth.
The fix for my sti was that the dealer took off all exhaust pipes and turbo and re soldered all loose parts and re-fitted them all. Then it was all ok....for about 1 year Now it started again... Dealer said it can't help it, too much power will cause it again and again to happen, so I will wait till it gets unbearable, then get it fixed again....

Thanks mate,
Do you think i could remove the heat shields and replace with a turbo bag, and exhaust wrap.
if i do this, do you think my warranty would be shot, as i put a turbo bag around the turbo instead of the standard heat shield.
cheers
