the newer cars have longer ecu numbers which is possibly what sp is referring to

the 2 digit codes used on the 93~98 cars refers to the ecu map on them basically

from memory SA is 94sti and has higher rev limit and higher boost.. 95sti has SB or it might be 96.. wrxs have 2C ranging through to Z4 and Z5 which are best standard ecu's for the 7000rpm limited wrx / uk tdo5 16g equipped cars.

I normally remove and replace with aftermarket or a live mappable board so the original ecu number is not my main focus at the time

thanks simon, i had a 93 wrx import and that had less revs and 0.7bar boost, my 94 sti i have now has 1 bar boost but i havent pushed it to see if i have extra revs.

simon i need you advice, i am looking to chance to a electronic boost controller, would there be any point in doing that if was was going to get an uprated ecu or remap

Thanks David

SA is standard for an STi 1 and runs the most boost out of all the Pre96 ECU, approx 14psi IIRC. A bit strange as it certainly isn't the highest power of the bunch (255ps Approx).
Not sure if it has a raised rev limit though, would have to check.

The SB is out of the STi 1 RA and runs very lean and slightly less boost and higher rev limit (270ps Approx).

The STi1 (SA), STi1 RA (SB), WRX (U8, W6 or 2C), WRX RA (W9) are the poorer ECU among the 1993-1996 Range.

The STi1 and STi1 RA ECU's are chipped by STi, so the board will have an additional chip fitted (soemtimes on a socket, sometimes soldered direct).

The boost controller will only give you marginal boost increase before you hit the inbuilt ECU fuel/boost cut limit.
You would also need to check for det, especially if strapping the boost controller to an STi ECU.

i would like to fit a manual boost controller as i prefer the way it boost as appose to the stock one, the stock one seems to boost over a wider rev range where as the manual boost controller has a more violant push.
