Default APEXI IHI RHF5 VF22

APEXI IHI RHF5 VF22

Sorry for the long intro, but been trying for while to get some info on this turbo, seems to be a lack of it, and seem to come across some varying info on them. So does anyone know some hard facts about these ?

So for what ive got is for the standard turbo.

1. They were fitted to JDM 22B / JDM WRX
2. Boost upto 20psi > 25 psi
3. Meant to be weak.

The Apexi version is meant to have a stronger compressor wheel, a 90 degree elbow welded on it. Its very much a hybrid it has a bit of lag before 4000 rpm then after that all hell breaks lose. When you change gear there is a wastegate chatter to die for.

So any helpful info would be appreciated

BELOW IS AN EXAMPLE PIC OF THE TURBO IM BANGING ON ABOUT

I've got an APEXI AX53B70. Can't find much about it either, only what it says on the Apexi site Apexi.

Bit laggy as you say, but when it's up there keeps boost well. I'm running at 1.3bar with no dump valve or recirc and been told theres plenty more in there.

Wicked sound on the chatter too, or turbine stalling, how ever you want to describe it!

AFAIK it's a VF22 off the 97 STi but modded with the 90 degree elbow so that it can fit the earlier cars.
Not sure why though as the VF22 probably performs similar to the TD05.

When I got the car mapped at Andy's, he mentioned about an Irish lad with an RA with an APEXI IHI RHF5 VF22, that car seems to be doing very well in comps. Now if I could track that person down.

I was working on my car today (V1 STi RA) and noticed that my turbo looked a bit funny (welded 90 degree inlet and something stamped on the side). Upon further investigation I noticed the serial number was RHF5 and it had APEXI stamped on the inlet. The volute has IHI Turbo stamped on it though, so I guess I must have the hybrid turbo that was mentioned above. I bought the driveline from an importer in the US to swap into my 95 Impreza LX chassis and I never looked closely at the turbo, but apparently it seems the previous owner changed out turbos. I was expecting to see a TD05H in there.
