Question Which Oil filter????

Hi i have a 1999 UK Impreza turbo,
Am going to change the oil so popped into halfords to get the bits.

On their chart its got impreza turbo 1994-1999 as one filter and then 1999-2001 of another filter.

As mine is a 1999 model, which filter do i go for? The car was first registered in April 1999.

Also i was going to buy th Mobil 1 15w-50 but have seen the Halfords fully synth 5w-40 or 5w-50 for £30 5 litres. Does anyone else use this? It says on it its made to the same standards as the leading brands and I imagine its no different.

Thanks
Matt

Subaru changed the physical size of the filter (smaller) but this was around 2003 ish and I can't recall that they changed the thread dia (often from 3/4" to 20mm) If both versions are in stock, check to see any differences - it may well be the size. Both work OK
The Halfords oil is OK and is made by Comma. Would have thought the 5w/50 stuff they do would be fine.

My advise is buy a genuine Subaru filter (it comes with a new sump washer for free!) If your not near a dealer get them to post it to you. As regards oil I also have a MY99 running 281bhp/312 lb/ft and only use Shell Ultra 5/40. This was recommended to me by Bob Rawle and he should know. If you change the oil yourself then prefill the filter to avoid damage on start up.

Thanks JohnD,
I'll pop back in tomorrow and have a look.
I'm going to go for the Halfords oil for that price. Also get a free 8 piece screwdriver set worth £20 and i love free stuff :-)
