Default Black smoke on boost

Hi all
I have a 1995 WRX with a hks air filter and full decat exhaust,
it has not been remaped so run's standard boost about 0.8 - 0.9 bar.
When driving home tonight i gave it a bit of right foot in 5th (held full for around 10secs) and there was puffs of black smoke not constant, i now this as someone was following me,
I just wondered if this was normal or could there be a problem with something.

If she wasn't properly warmed up it could be just the cold start on the ecu slightly overfueling, my be worth fault checking the ECU, MAF or lamda could cause overfueling too hth

Thanks for the advice,
its not giving me any fault codes at the mo,
the lambda was changed about a month ago so it shouldn't be that
but i will check out the maf, is there any other way of checking it other than pulling the connection off as i have done this and it dies as im told it should.
I have been thinking about a remap for a while so this may just be my excuse to get it done

IF YOU GO FOR REMAP, USE A TRUSTED MAPPER, THERE ARE PLENTY OF COWBOYS ABOUT, AND SOME BLOODY GOOD ONES.

oops soz bout the caps...lol

API, JGM etc all come with good rep as does Scoobyclinic

Nothing wrong with MAf if it cuts out.

A remap it is then
Im based in essex and mocom racing is not that far from me which i have heard alot of good things about but i will definately be having a look and doing a bit of research in to other companys first.

Ill stay well clear of any back street one's for the few £s id save i will end up with a rebuild bill not to long after

I dont think its as easy as a simple remap mate, the early ECU's(pre MY96) cant be directly mapped, you will need somthing along the lines of a ESL board like this Products

Over fueling yes, but this could be a small air leak between the turbo and intercooler so air is escaping but the car is still fueling for the air that should be there.

Check pipework before spending money!

Depending on the size of the hole (of there is one). Will probably only be evident when you rev the engine.. Watch the belts

Not necessarily mate, you want to have a look at a cars exhaust when detonation occurs.
This blows carbon off the surrounding walls of the combustion chamber and looks (to the untrained eye) just like a rich mixture would.

Is there anyway of telling if its this before it blows a piston.
I haven't heard any detonation noise (assuming you can).
Is it the same noise as pinking

How about taking it to your local specialist and have it properly checked over and then they can give you some idea of costs if there is anything wrong. They would be the best people to advise. I doubt is is detting on .9 bar boost, but how do you know the MAF isn't fecked and it's actually running lean?
Pulling the plug off means F all.
