When the cars running idle....from cold let it run with the cap off the header tank. Smell inside the cap for fuel...one easy way to see if the head has gone or lifted...

Have you tried testing for a block?

Hi mate having jut gone through this (endcap of rad split) overflow bubbling away after a run etc. Doesnt matter if you do a compression test it probably wont show up anyway!

If the water system is pressurising then there is only a few things it can be and it' very likely to be Head Gasket. Mine was chemically tested 3 times and didnt show up but having stripped the engine recently I could confirm it was gasket (pic attached) look at the top right, it looks like the waterway part of the gasket is scorched !
