De cat on Bugeye
I have been slowly gathering together the components to de cat my bug wrx. I now have the centre cat (one below the downpipe) fitted, a H and S decat downpipe on the way, and an STI backbox. Resonated centre pipe is going to stay. My questions are will just having the OE up pipe cat on pass the MOT, will I notice the difference with the downpipe and centre cats removed, and what kind of gain will I see roughly without remap?
Thanks
Myles

I was running a full decat on my bugeye without remap and never had any probs apart from the CEL on obviously. It sould give between 20 to 30 bhp but it did not pass MOT with just the up pipe cat, I have since replaced the downpipe with a Miltek sports cat and passed my MOT today. The CEL stays off as well apart from long motorway runs, getting a remap sometime soon

As for CEL on long journeys, does it clear itself when you start up again, or does it need resetting with some kind of tool?

Ive only got the cat in the up pipe left & MY02 wrx passes its MOT with no probs!
As for the cel light get it remaped & the light will go out & you've got more power too!

Hijack!!!
I've got the last cat removed on my 02 buyeye, and noticed some improvement. No CEL either. If I remove the pre turbo cat will I have any problems without a re-map either MOT or fueling?

like someone above said - get a Sportscat downpipe and get rid of all the others (especially the uppipe one). A decat uppipe greatly improves spoolup and thus responsiveness, and is a great mod. Made a world of difference to my MY02

the CEL light never came on on my car for some reason

My CEL light took 100 miles before it came on. Luckily it came on when I was driving down to JGM so it was mapped out 10 miles later

Too late guys, I have the decat downpipe, so I have 2 choices. Either keep my centre cat for MOT time, or find a decat friendly MOT station. If anyone has any ideas on the second option, round the Oxfordshire Swindon area then PM me!!

I think option 2 is your best bet as i've heard that they won't pass with just the centre cat but if people are getting through legit on full decats then you would think it should pass. You could always take it to a local garage and ask them to put it on the sniffer before MOT time, it only takes a min and I've never been charged for it.

I think you are right. So my plan of action is:- get the decat downpipe fitted, to go with the centre decat, leave the up pipe, and come mot time, find a friendly MOTer to pass me car. AND save up for a re-map!
