the turbo might look ok but the seals could be leaking internally. if a ring had gone you would get a lot of detonation due to the excess of oil being burnt. a compression and cylinder leakage test would give an indication to whats happening internally + the condition of your spark plugs would indicate whats being burnt

compression sounds ok, mine was between 163 and 165 on all 4....so as long as they are fairly close figures it shouldnt be much to worry about...failing emissions would lead me to believe its running rich, but then again the plugs would usually be sooty if running rich??
i think the best thing u could do phil is get it to OMA Michael will most likely to put his hand on the problem right away and hes not hard to pay
i would also get a remap mate esp if your running an 18g!....get an apexi for 350 or so and get it all mapped ull not look back i was and still am smiling when i done the upgrade it would be money well spent an may iron out alot of the problems that u could still be searching to fix in another few months time

thanx barry mate i would love to take it to OMA but im living in england now with lauren!! lol!!! but i am 100% sure there is a problem!! the blue smoke on start up is really bad e.g clouds of smoke for around 10 seconds, then when u put ur foot down there is plenty of blue smoke aswell!! but only in 1st or 2nd gear!!! but as i said before we had the turbo off and it was dry with no play!! could this be piston rings or maybe valve stem oil seals?????? thanx in advance for the help guys x

Valve stem seals possibly?
Thing is, if you get lots of smoke on initial start up having left the car to stand for a while, then it's leaking into the cylinder from somewhere. Given the angle of the cylinder heads on these cars, it's not as clear what it could be thanks to gravity.
I know on the 'normal' engines with the cylinder heads on top, oil pooling around the valve stems can leak through the seals into the cylinder causing the smoke screen at the back on start up.
I'd still suspect the turbo more though for the above reasons.
