Default Remap needed when FMIC fitted?

Hi Guys I'm about to buy a 1994 wrx whixh has had a front mount fitted for a few years but it has never had a remap, i was under the impression the car HAD to have a remap once this was done?

Any insight would be great as i'm due to pick up soon

No you dont need to remap the ecu if you mount a FMIC

But you should change the oil and remap the ecu anyway. Because this is something you dont see if its done or not i wouldnt trust the seller. Its just a few pounds to invest and you're on the safe side.

Your problem is that it isn't easy to re-map a 94 model.... someone who knows about classics will be along shortly !

IMHO An intercooler doesn't need a re-map, but the extra cooling means more power can be had.

Problem with boilting on a fmic means there will be much more turbo lag as you have so much more pipework to suck the air up from.

I would take hoagies advice and get yourself a remap, cos with an older car you wont be entirely sure how its running anyways and time does take its toll.

I would maybe recommend giving it a thorough serv ice using genuine or uprated parts, maybe splash out on a few extra goodies (air filter/de-cats etc etc....) then go for the remap and see how thae car fairs.

Good luck.

Thanks guys

If the previous owner has had the FMIC fitted for a while and has been blasting it around, would this have caused the engine any probs?

I will get it fully serviced and remapped but i will be able to negotiate a better price now that i know i will have to pay out £500-£800

Thank you very much

Rubbish. It's a piece of p!ss to get a 94 mapped. Loads of places can do it. Jollygreenmonster, Polarperformance etc etc etc (sorry to the guys I've not mentioned, we just get bored with typing them in every other day!).

Hi, to map the early impreza's you'll need to fit someting like the esl live board(£550 fitted/mapped),or a apexi power fc(getting scarce now, about £800 fitted/maped). I fitted a fmic to my old classic, and had no problems at all without a map,i did have a generic map chip fitted, plug and play. If you get in touch with scott at polar performance,he should be able to help you with this,as he does both the live map and generic types of chip, and should be able to give you some better advise than me!
The issue of extra lag is a funny one,i noticed no extra lag at all,but then im not a hardend racer so may not be that sensitive to it!

From personal experience, don't do what I did though as all cars are different, and I won't be held accountable, for someone elses choices.

Just replying to some things already posted;

FMIC has been on my car since December 06 I think, I should know better I fitted it, but my car has never been remapped since.

Driving off boost... erm I don't think I could run a 12.4 1/4 mile off boost.

Not noticeably laggy at all, during normal driving, trundling along in a higher gear then flooring it, then yeah a bit.

Extra lag is a bit of an urban myth. Or at least as much as people say!!

Bob rawle for mapping, search his user name on here 'bob rawle' and ask him when he is in your area next. i would recommend getting it done somewhere that has a rolling road, much easier than jujst doing it on the road.
