Default ECU question - need urgent advice

Hi guys. Ive come back to the only source I trust. I hope there are still some classics knocking around here!

In a nutshell, heres the issue:

MY93 import with a full decat, nothing else has been done to the car.

I got the decat fitted and it ran fine for about 3 yrs.

had a clutch change about 12 months ago, after which its been coughing and spluttering randomly.

Some days its perfectly fine, like the old days. It seems to pop and bang a lot more and louder than before.

Fuel "economy" is about 12-15mpg!!!!!!

Ive had plugs and MAF changed, coil pack looked fine apparently (garage opinion), had it checked for electrical wiring problems but nothing was found.

Someone suggested that I need to sort out the ecu due to the decat. Can anyone confirm this and if so where can i find a suitable ecu/remapper?

I really need to sort this out as if i cant i might be forced to sell and i really do love this car. Makes me feel really low...

Thanks for your help guys.

if you had a clutch done this would mean your downpipe would have been removed so this poss killed the lambda sensor as with most sensors they tend to break when messed with

you need to go around all the intercooler pipes and check for leaks, jubilees tight etc.. also check the dump valve is not leaking.

lambda sensor needs checking again I suggest.

also on that age car the coilpack often fail so would be a wise move to replace/check them.

Yes I remap ecus but this sounds like a problem with the car not the map..
you can map around a problem but it only comes back to bite you, best to resolve the problem.

10/10 for that man!
Thats proper salemans advice and should be listened to.

I reckon I get at leas 1 call a day from people that have been sold the wrong stuff when they didn't need it. If only everyone was like JGM, the world would be a happier place.

And I'm not taking the ****. Credit where credits due.

thanks guys.

i think next move will be a new lambda sensor.

i, not sure if theres a boost leak will prob have to get it checked by someone. I can however hear the turbo spooling up through the exhaust like a loud whisting sound - something that never happened before. I hasnt been driven in a while.

Coil packs are expensive! Any recommendations - OEM or the £200 set on ebay? Id like to work with the little things first before having to fork out!

thank again ppl, i knew i could count on you guys for good info.
