Default Boost restrictor pill ? Where should it be ?

Hi fellas,

Where should the boost restrictor "pill" be in the turbo/wastegate/boost solenoid plumbing ?

Had mine in bits, and not sure it's all back correctly.... again, and again.....

Cheers,

Duncan

P.S. It's not mapped so this is precautionary

what happens if this is removed, would the car overboost or would the actuator stop it reaching for example 1.5 bar unmapped?

With the pipe and the pill removed on my Classic the car would overboost all the way to fuel cut.

normally if the pill is missing they fail to make their bost target.................

the pill should be in the pipe leading from the turbo nose before the t-piece

picture is for 1993-1996, if missing it wil overboost.
For 1997> it is as per stockcars reply and if missing will underboost.

between compressor cover and T piece on newage 2port

if you remove it you will get actuator pressure and therefore safer until remap

This is correct: as they changed the solonoid/pipework between these years.

Restrictor on later cars is located between the Tee-piece and the nipple on the turbo outlet . Don't remove it, unless its overboosting (normally after exhaust or turbo modifications)...in which case it can be drilled out slightly. All it does is slow down the pressure build at the actuator - bigger the hole, the quicker pressure reaches the actuator.

On older systems its the reverse.

Its there to help the reaction times of the wastegate and boost solonoid, so it can reach the target boost without overshooting or undershooting the target pressure. It doesn't "restrict" boost per-say, just dampens the response of the actuator. The main job of restricting boost is still done by the purge solonoid venting the pressure that the actuator "sees".
