Default Z4 ecu + japspeed sticker and switch ?wtf

A friend of mine just got an old wrx in which he is breaking, and it had some little switch on the dash which altered the idle ?,
when we inspected the cu it is a z4 with extra wires comin out the other side going to this switch?,is this some kind of antilag or somethin?,also says japspeed on the ecu.

Have you opened the ecu?
As there may be an extra chip in there

Open it up and see what has been done

this is a piccy of the standard early ecu bottom rhs is where the extra chip can be fiited and normally the J1 resistor is cut to enable the ecu to run the chip.
But as ,ste sti, said most probably instead of cutting the resistor they've put a switch in instead (not sure how though)

There not always a 'cheap ebay' item. If the chips done correctly, you can get some good gains. It's a damn site cheaper than a new ecu. As stated, the switch will probably solder to the cut resistor in the ecu to allow switching between maps. I can't see the point really,as the new chip should be mapped for UK fuel,so using the old map could cause problems.Chipping also removes the 112mph limit.
Cost wise,i'd expect £130 ish for the ecu and chip together. Just my opinion mind,im sure i'll be corrected soon!!

unfortunately most probably not ,imo,a lot unless you can determine if the chip (if there is one in there) is remappable or what the map is like (e.g. fuelling, boost etc)
