Default Scooby engine help needed as I know nothing!

Hi help needed please,
I've had my 1998 uk spec Impreza turbo 2000 awd just over a year now and love the whole scooby ting but my engines bottom end has just gone! so time for a new engine but which one is best with out to much mucking about to make it fit? Do I go for the sti 92-98 ej-20 and will it fit my car? or a wrx 93-99 engine or is it better to stick with the same as the old one? many thanks vinny......

go for a sti engine better internals than a wrx , also makes more power , another option is the 2.5 route but that will cost you big time , but comes with big

ps even the 2.5 will fits yr car , just get advice from the people/company that is doing it

While Vinny is at work - He really needs to know if either of them are pretty much bolt-in replacements that can be taken care of by your average spanner monkey pronto, rather than shall we say a more skilled / patient person with time to make various mods! I know he hasn't got the time to do the job himself at the mo so it's a bit limiting.

well if you want "simple", just replace like for like ...but why though when you have a chance to mod/upgrade to a bettter spec and more bhp

most scooby owners will do the latter !!

Without wanting to speak for Vinny - I guess because the two engines noted are within easy reach and if are bolt in jobs could have his car back on the road within a few days, as opposed to hunting down the exact replacement.

Not so much an unplanned upgrade opportunity as an oh ****e how do I get to work in the morning dilemma!

fitting a wrx or sti complete engine may require the wiring looms and ecu due to different sensors and heads etc... how ever you can use the bottom end of any 2.0litre impreza with your existing heads (block, pistons, crank rods=complete bottom end)

think thats an option anyway...someone will jump in and stop me talking crap if not...i hope

Yo thanks for the replys, could do some small mods if its not to major as my coz (Delinquent) said looking to get it back on the road as soon as poss.
If its just a case of a new ecu and wiring looms and the 98 wax engine will fit in I'm all for it......

i put my 96 RA engine into a UK WRX with a blown engine.

Had to mod a couple of wires/connectors and coolant pipes, but nothing serious.

I did use a coil pack engine and keep the single coil wiring, so just stuck with the single coil unit on the top of the inlet manifold.

When i did this i had a simtek ECU unit fitted but i'm sure you can get it mapped to suit if you do use an STi engine.

It depends if you simply want the car back or are hoping to go for more power in the future??

Good luck.

Thanks minty will look in to putting the WRK engine in, I've now got a run around so no need to rush getting my scooby back on the run, as i've got the time might as well upgrade and go for more power and fun!!!
