Unhappy OIL PRESSURE GAUGE PROBLEM

Hi guys and girls. I have got a Auto Gauge oil pressure gauge which i bought from Mil sport in april. The problem with it is,when the car get hot every time i stop at traffic lights or roundabouts the gauge drops to zero and the warning light comes on the gauge. Could this be a gauge fault or a wireing fault

Either way, I wouldnt use the car until youve checked it out. Is it an electronic or analogue gauge?

Id get the oil pressure checked out ASAP.

I'm assuming that you still have the standard oil pressure warning plumbed in? If so, are you getting any warning lights up?

If it's an electronic gauge you might have a faulty sender unit, if it's a mechanically driven gauge (i.e. it's plumbed straight into your oil system) you might have a faulty gauge or a leak in the pipework from the engine to the gauge.

Either way I'd get it checked out before you drive the car again.

Is the preassure low when at idle, once hot,or also cold? Or is it the braking that causes it to drop off,and then ok when stationay?

Only seems to be when the car is hot. and revs drop below 1500rpm. Car is driving perfectly fine otherwise.

It's an electronic gauge. No other warning lights coming on.

Sounds like a oil psessure problem, not the gauge. My guage shows 7 bar on start up,at any rpm, then drops to 2-3 bar once hot on idle,6-7 bar with revs.
Did you keep the standard pressure switch under the alternator? I know a few people ditch it when fitting a gauge. I have the feeling the pressure at which the oil light comes on is quite low,as mine goes out just turning the engine over.
Best get it looked at to be sure,as no oil pressure could get vey expensive if the engine lets go!
If your handy with a spanner, changing the oil pump is quite easy.Did mine a couple weeks ago, fitted a modded one from Api. £110+vat.
I assume you've checked your oil level?

iv,e got a prosport oil pressure guage wich i think come out of the same factory as autoguage ones just a different brand name on them, i,ve had simalar problems most of the time it reads properly some times it does the same as yours i,ve had two oil pressure gauges wired up at the same time for the last two weeks and its not done it once so i can,t tell if its the gauge or engine. i might be wrong but i think its a gauge problem (well hope so)if you lose all oil pressure even for a short time at low rpm i would have thought your engine would be toast very quickly, also mine doesn,t do it all the while and i can,t see how you can have pressure one minute, none the next and then it be ok again for 2 weeks but as said above get it checked out properly just in case. if you do get to the bottom of the problem let me know what the cause is.
