main bearings
just got a set of main bearings for my ej20,they were advertised as standard & it does say standard on the box but there's a note inside saying CAUTION these bearings contain a thrust bearing with a increased overall width for undersized crank journals
would these be safe to use
is this normal
do crank journals where
thanx

Its normally the thrust part of the main bearing which wears, but i have seen some hammered thrust faces on a few cranks.
The only way to tell is to fit the mains into the block half, lay the crank in block and measure the end float of the crank.
End Float for Center and Rear Thrust cranks: 0.0012 - 0.0045"

thanks mick i'll have a look tomorrow do in need to put the 2 block halves together...
just had a look on their site & there's 2 part numbers,a standard factory size & my part number witch is standard with increased width
my engine has done 93 thousand miles so i suppose factory standard wont be much use lol

The note refers to "over size" bearings, where ACL increase the width, as well as the diameter. It doesn't apply to STD sizes.
It's to allow for machining the crank thrust surfaces at the same time as the journal.
Mark.

If you take the mains out of the sealed packet, they probably wont accept them back if they are wrong.
If you can see through the packaging - have a look at the back of the shells and they should be marked STD or 0.25 or 0.50 if there is nothing marked on the box.
Compare them with the ones out of your engine or measure the crank journals to confirm the actual size.
Some bearing suppliers make Standard size bearings with an Oversize thrust face them to compensate for wear on the thrust face of the crank.
