Default Oil from Dump Valve

Hi all

I'm just in the process of buying Impreza STI-UK on a 03 reg hawkeye, went to see it on Saturday and its got a Turbosmart DV on it problem being theres oli coming from DV spraying on the bonnet its quite alot, its stained the bonnet rather than dripping off it, i haven't got a clue how long the DV has been on though. The car has done 86k.

Whats the problems and what are the cots to get it fixed?

Any help appreciated?

Thanks Kev

If there is oil coming out of the DV, then there is more than likely oil in the intercooler too. This massively reduces the efficiencey of the intercooler, not to mention droping the effective octane of the fuel if it is making it's way into the cylinders via the manifold - and this may have resulted in DET, which can be very bad for engines. Personally I would say walk away, or have the car very carefully checked by a Subaru expert.

Agreed, oil in the induction system is a problem, sounds like that one has had a hard time.

Not good think twice, think again and then go buy a different one.

Back out - citing engine worries re. the oil from the dump valve. That should get your deposit back. Advise the seller that you'll ask for an AA check before committing, with especial attention paid to the engine condition.

I don't think it a good idea to buy that car with that obvious fault.

It could prove expensive, or ask for an engine warranty even though it is a private sale. Something like £1000 back, if it goes wrong in the first 6 weeks.

I had oil from the DV on my last impreza, turned out to be rings. Was also getting smoke from it to. The exhaust gasses were passing the rings, and coming up through the breathers, taking oil with it into the intake.

1000 quid?Christ your rebuilds are cheap david but as everyone has said walk away cos you might find the warranty has a limit of 1 or 2000 and you might need to fork out another grand on top to get it rebuilt...speaking from experience btw plus as an 03 plate wouldnt it be a blob and not a hawkeye?
