Default GUTTED...HAD MY STI V5 A WEEK AND BIG ENDS GONE!!

Well guys

I'm absolutely gutted, as you know just got my STI V5 about a week ago and the big ends just gone today, absolutely gutted. Problem is i'm in a right dilema here, i can't really afford the repair bill as i think i'm looking at at least 2k+ to get repaired, and thats money i do not have. Now i've worked out that i could probably break the car for close to £6k but don't wont to do that as the car is in fantastic condition and has only done 55k miles and has a very good spec.

With the spec of the car i would've been looking at aound 7.5k for the car if i was going to sell it in working order so as the big end has gone what would be the max price i could sell the car for in the condition it's in now???

The car has a very good spec and this year alone has had a new gearbox, new clutch, lightend fly wheel and new diffs all fitted by scooby clinic costing around 3K and have the reciepts for all this., also it had the brembo brakes fitted with brand new performance friction 326mm discs about 2 months ago at a cost of £1200, receipts for this also

What do you think i should do guys, i'm gutted and dont know what would be the best thing to do?

the spec of the car is as follows

STI V5 in Royal Silver

Engine
Graham Goode VF29 Hybrid Turbo
3" HKS Super Dragger exhaust system
Decat downpipe
255 walbro fuel pump
Uprated Conrods and Bolts
Graham Goode induction kit
ECU TEK Remap
Alloy Rad
Light Weight Flywheel
HKS bov
Carbon fibre strut brace

Brakes and Suspension
Gold Brembo Calipers off newage
325mm Performance discs and pads from Scooby Clinic
Standard Rears
Tein S tec lowering springs on standard STI shocks

Wheels and Tyres
OZ Superleggra's with toyo's

Bodywork
Standard STI kit - Spoiler, rear lights, fog covers alloy bonnet.
V6 Front Splitter
Red Mudflaps with Sti Logo's
Crystal light pack
Folding electric mirrors

Interior
Standard STI interior
STI Mats
Alpine CD Headunit

That's a great looking STi mate, all credit to you.

Bite the bullet and get the engine rebuilt bigger and better than before. You may not be able to afford it but what will you do if you sell it? Buy another car? What if the engine blows up in your next motor?

At least if you get a decent rebuild you'll know that your car is bulletproof, you've just spent 5k on the transmission and brakes!

Other than that you could look for a cheap replacement motor but you could end up with a dud. Or you get a budget rebuild......not adviseable though.

It's a great car, save it!

Personally I'd beach it in a garage or driveway and save for however many weeks and months it takes to rebuild the engine. It might take a while but a car with the spec has to be saved. You may have to put up with a cheap runaround for a while, but it'll be bombproof after a good rebuild.

Out of interest when you bought it a week ago who did you get it from? Trade or private?

I agree with the above two posts.

Store and save for a bigger and better engine build.

Depends on what you use your car for now. If you need a car, buy a cheapy to run about for the next year whilst stashing some money away for a top engine build. Get it on the projects thread and get the forum involved!!

If that pushes you too far (financially), then save just enough to build it back to where it was before the big end went.

Best of luck to you sir!

Put it off the road and save like a beaver to get it done, buy the bits needed as you get the cash.

Don't add to this country's obsession with spending money you dont have!!!!

take it off the road and get the engine out, do as much as you can yourself to save on garage bills. Decide on a spec & save the money required, dont get a loan. Get the engine sorted & get it back on the road.

Mine recently died & I had it rebuilt as a 2.5 - best decision I've ever made

My worst nightmare....a rebuild.

If you haven't the cash then consider selling some of the parts for cheaper replacements, brakes, alloys, must be loads of other bits n' bobs on the car that can be taken off that won't affect the remap.
That way you could get atleast £1000 for the parts towards the build.

Unfortunately i really don't think parking it up is an option, i'd hate to break it as the car is mint but if i did i think i could make close to 6k.

Do you think i could get £4.5k for the car as is?

Doubtful.... people can buy a working example for £3k and nobody seems to care how good a condition they are in now... Market is flooded with cheap, shoddy poor condition imports bringing the price of the good ones down.

Why is parking it up while you save not an option? Storage? Have you not got someone you could rent a driveway space from at a cheap rate?

Do what I've done. Put it off the road, SORN it and claw back your tax and insurance, save up and buy the bits you need one thing at a time. My big ends on my WRX4 went in April. Now at the end of July I'm ready to start assembling the short block and the heads and probably by the end of August I'll be back on the road.

In the meantime I'm driving around in an old 1.6 Escort and loving the 35mpg even if the seats do give me terrible backache LOL
