Unhappy Cracked my tone wheel :(

Hi,

I have been changing the discs and pads on my 2003 Impreza STI UK this morning. Its the 1st time ive worked on the scoob, and being much more used to the agricultural simplicity of my old escort ive been a bit heavy handed getting the old rear discs off and Ive managed to bend the ABS tone wheel .

Its still in one piece but there are some cracks in it (its only made of monkey metal) and when I put a straight edge across it theres about 1/2mm of gap between the rule and the bent section.

Does anyone know:

1). How tolerant the ABS ecu might be to this.

2). Can replacements of these be got from anywhere other than a subaru dealer (mine is a way away). If so any idea of the price. or

3). Has anyone got a spare I could buy?!

I havent taken her out to see if he ECU is complainig yet (its bent away from the sensor so no problems with is fouling it) but Im guessing its not going to like it

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Stuart

I would be more worried about the crack than the mis alignment. Tone wheels work on the on off on off from the tooth space, if the side of the wheel is out of alignment the sensor would be more tolerent of this than tooth space width.

Run the car and force the ABS to engage, if there is not ABS warning/fault light then I would say your ok.

Still be on the look out to replace it due to crack and metal fatigue, they really are made on a budget.

Hi Mate,

The crack isnt too bad and all the teeth are still in place, its just a bit bent . Im going to try and get some high temperature glue and try and create some kind of steel support and glue it too it to try and straighten it out as even if I can get hold of one (which is proving difficult) I dont really fancy having to disturb the bearing .

BTTT Anyone got a spare??

I have a spare tone ring from a classic front hub I don't know if they are common across the abs years though.
