Default type r tuning advice

Ok i've got a 1997 wrx sti type r its only got a cat back exhaust and a boost gauge reading 0.6 kg/cm2. I thought that the standard boost should be more than that.

on the 22nd August I've got it booked in to get a fmic, downpipe/decat, boost controller and Unichip

Has anyone any advice regarding those mods or anything else that you might need.

Thanks in advance.

Michael

Would be interested to hear why you wouldnt recommend a Unichip, JGM, as its a very reputable mapper over here that is proposing to fit it.

Standard boost should be 1.1 bar, yes? From searching on here I see that it could maybe be something to do with the boost restrictor, be it faulty or plumbed in wrong, or perhaps a faulty boost solenoid?

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Posting on behalf of resintooth.

Thanks

I had a Unichip on my type R when i got it. it was ok but the Other ecu's are now a better option, how far do you want to tune it to? have a look at my car, you might not need to fo with a front mount, I am over 400 with an sti8 topmount and less lag than a FMIC.

I dont think he wants to go much further with it, like changing the turbo or injectors or anything. Basically wants a remap to make the car 100% on uk fuel and with the downpipe/decat installed.

As slideordie says not really looking to do anything else to it after this just wanted a little extra power.

Can anyone answer the boost problem?

Cheers

if your having the car mapped anyway then is there realy any point having the uni-chip?? would they give you any extra power etc?? infact could someone explain what they actually do that a remap couldnt??

The unichip IS the means by which it is getting remapped.
