car overheating
hi. i got a 2001 wrx. recently there has become a slight crack in the top of the radiator on the plastic bit, the car seems to be overheating very quickly which i think has caused this to damage the radiator. when it gets hot the fan kicks in but the temprature is going over the red warning level? can anybody help me? thanks.

if u need to keep topping up the coolant i'd say there is a leak in the system which may cause the blowers not to blow hot and cause overheating as the system will not have coolant to cool engine.
heaters not blowing hot could also be down to a sticky thermostat, normally these cost about £10 for a new one but since its a scooby it may be double the price like all other parts lol.
thermostats aint a major problem to sort but on saying that i have no idea where it is on a scoob engine.

whip the thermostat out and test it in boiling water to see if it opens...5 minute job and costs nothing. I would replace the rad if its cracked also...
like said above, don't drive or run when your on the red on the gauge. you can warp the heads and cause probs...

Thermostat is located where the hose from the radiator goes into the water pump. Also if the thermostat is not opening, this hose will not get as hot as the one into the radiator (you'll need to give it time though).

yeah if its leakin the coolant out or stopping the coolant flow thru the system, check that both rad pipes are hot when engine is warm.
u say u keep filling up the coolant level which means there is a leak and will more than likely have air in the system
