Default thinking of getting new ecu!

basically i have a 98 uk wagon which i think is the v4, but ive been told that the ecu's can't be re-mapped. ive also heard that you can fit earlier ecu's with just the change of a couple of wires?? is this correct if so which is the best ecu to get to be re-mapped???

Whole heartedly recommend Jolly Green Monster, Simon is a top skin who really knows his onions.

A search will tell you all you need to know on both the above mentioned options!

you can't easily fit the earlier ecu, and it would be pointless exercise.

the only pin swapping is if a JDM spec ecu like and Apexi PowerFC is used on the uk but mapper sorts that

They all charge the same AFAIK. They are governed by Simtek themselves I think.

92-96 = ESL option.
97/8 seems to be the ***** one that struggles

The common theme seems to be that www.jollygreenmonster.co.uk has the answers, have you had a look at the site or called for a quote and some information? Simon wont bite, he's a very nice man

If this is the case, it amounts to blatant price fixing, which is illegal. Perhaps Simtek and their distributors should avail themselves of the law in this respect - before someone reports them to the office of fair trading....

or perhaps you might untangle your knickers and accept that if you want a bloody good ecu then you have to pay the same price whomever you choose to use.

Not moaning about it, especially as I have absolutely no intention to buy one. My skillfully mapped OEM ECU delivers the goods (and 420bhp) and I'm extremely happy with it. Merely pointing out that IF the price is fixed by agreement, this is illegal and the parties involved could be open to prosecution...

We charge £995 inc vat fitted, and mapped using our own Dyno Dynamics dyno and on the road, as recommended by the designers of the system.
No big secret!

Fella it is £895 + vat on Simon's site, so pricing does vary.

Alan,
Are you trying to imply something?
Limited company, vat registered and my sole income not that part time is an issue as most of the top mappers are or have been. This takes up my time 24/7 pretty much.
You keep up all the talk
Lol

Most of my mapping is mobile or for traders and I rent workshop space local when needed, along with 3 rolling roads I use when necessary.
I only map I dont build engines other than my own so have no need for fulltime premises as such. I could fit parts, open a service centre etc but my interest is in mapping so I leave the rest to the traders and do their mapping of which are currently 6 or of course for individuals
