Personally anything over 330bhp and you are pushing you luck charge temp wise, during extended blasts on any classic top mount.
For short bursts it will be fine but ultimately you would be better of with something like a hybrid front mount. In terms of performance and engine safety.

Second the above fitting a larger top mount or idealy a front mount will also increase your saftely margin.
Wringing the neck of a smaller top mount to obtain the figures you require is not really and option in my opinion.
Fitting the later STI 8 intercooler is no way a large job its just needs some small fabrication of brackets etc.

I've been in this position myself.
If you have a classic, it's better to just go the FMIC route IMHO. Unless you don't want to cut into your bumper.
Hybrid FMIC, very effective and good value. Fit and forget as far as charge temps are concerned and heat soak a thing of the past lol
