Default Fuel cut defenders

I've got a bit of a problem @ the moment.

It's a fuel cut

Since fitting a FMIC to my WRX. The boost has increased slightly and on full boost it's cutting!!!!!

I've been advised to fit a HKS fuel cut defender but I've had mixed views on using them as it could go POP

Is there a better option?

Yes, fit a Manual Boost Controller, not to be confused as a Bleed Valve, set it up with a boost gauge so max boost is 1 bar. This will stop overboosting hitting fuel cut.

If your ecu is standard then it should be able to cope with a slight increase in boost pressure without cutting out (think it is about 16psi so over 1 bar)

If you have only just fitted the fmic, I would be more prone to checking for air leaks etc.

Fuel cut will not increase the fuelling, it just tricks the ecu into thinking it is running less boost than it is, therefore there would be a good chance you would be running lean. Off course other people will say they have been running fine for years with one.

Remap/ECU or manual boost controller is the best way forward assuming there are no leaks

if its struggling after fitting a frpont mount then i'd get it mapped, not worth risking a boost spike and bye bye piston

You need a remap. Fuel cut is there for a reason; to prevent engine damage from boost spikes.

Do it properly.

the boost before i fitted the FMIC was peaking @ .8 bar but since then goes to 1.0 bar

but then my lamco boost gauge only goes to 1 bar so it may be spiking

have to measure exactly how much more boost...

My car is a phase 1. Is it worth mapping the original ECU or is it better with something aftermarket? Bearing in mind funds

im surprised it is giving you that much more of an overboost (fuel cut is over 16 psi im sure so it will be higher than your gauge).

I would still check for leaks, and also it isnt unknown for hoses to collapse which will give you a lack of boost but would theoreticsally give you the same problem

Phil : A cheap, very cost effective solution is to fit a Hybrid SBC-D-RX. This is an accurate boost controller that also acts as a fuel cut defender all for less than the cost of an HKS FCD.
It is easy to fit and boost control is accurate and precise. In cabin adjustment, attractive alluminium case, full time closed loop boost control, fast target boost lock, reduce turbo spool time, etc. This must be one of the best value for money mods you will come across. All for £70.
