Default Newly bought WRX - Couple of questions.....

Just bought a 51 WRX, when I am sat stationary and I turn the steering wheel slightly there is a slight delay and the power steering seems to take a second to catch up...if that makes sense!? Just wondering if this is normal or likely to be a problem?

Also, there are a number of bolts holding plastic panels in place on the front cross section under the bonnet (near the bonnet catch) I was looking to replace them as they have rusted and noticed one was snapped off. They look rusted in place but I have 'been told' that the cambelt was just replaced. It's my understanding that the radiator has to come out for cambelt change so surely these bolts should have come out?

OK, last one, promise! Car has just had new break disks/pads all round and they seem to be constantly rusting. I know this can happen when car has been sat/washed but I drove it at lunchtime and by tonight there was fresh rust all over the disks! Seems very strange.

Appreciate any advice,
Justin

I have a 01 WRX and mine does the same on the power steering so must be normal or we both have a problem.

power steering sounds fine to me as i think mine does what ur meaning.

as for the bolts the radiator can stay in during belt change but is easier with it removed. so thats a 50/50

is it all discs that are rusting?

Cheers guys, sounds like the power steering is ok then! Just wanted to check!

Yes, all 4 disks are rusting over, soon clears but it keeps coming back. Wish the previous owner had taken the oppurtunity to upgrade the brakes!

I was told that the radiator had been out and I should check the level after a couple of days so it just rang an alarm with me really.

if all brakes are doing it there could possibly be something on the pads or disc making it rust, clean them with brakes cleaner.

if one bolt has snapped thats a good sign its been out at one point surely?

Will get something and give them a good clean. Maybe being paranoid but I'm sure the bolt wasn't snapped off when I first saw the car then, after cambelt 'fitted' it was. Well, they've stamped the book so I guess it must have been done!

was it a private sale?

if so check with the garage that fitted it, if it was bought from a dealer they could stamp it and say anything was done really.

Justin

I've got a bugeye WRX and the Power steering does take a while to sort
itself out when I set out in the morning....been the same for the last 6 years LOL

I park my car in the car park at 8.30 am and by 5.30 pm there is brown rust on the rotors......

The OEM one's were't too bad, the Godspeed disks were about the same but the Tarox kit I have at the moment ....

I guess it depends what you have fitted LOL
