Default 2006 WRX 2.5 - Sports Cat

Hi there

Looking to find out what others are using on their 2.5's as a sports cat as i am looking for one for mine

does anyone know if the 2.0 Prodrive sports cat will fit a 2.5? - i already have a TSL deresonate centre section and Group N backbox but need to get rid of the 2nd cat and change the front cat to a sports one prior to going for a remap

Anyone got these for a 2.5 that they want to sell?

Plan B will then be to go for a bigger turbo (VF34 or TD05 - which is best for a 2.5??) and an STI TMIC together with STI pinks and a Wallbro pump - that little lot should give i am told around 330-340 bhp with loads of torque - just what i am looking for

cheers

Kev

I am also looking for a sports cat for my 2007 WRX before getting the car remapped.
Can the cat be changed separately in the downpipe or does the whole downpipe need to be changed?

Zerosports have this:

Parts Manufacturer: ZERO SPORTS
Item No.: 215-007-006-2
All stainless, A super metal (efficient metal catalyst) realizes exhaust efficiency near the high catalyst effect and a high straight pipe. The catalyst part exhaust temperature at the time of an idling is 200c - 250c. The super metal is already proud of 70% or more of rate of purification at this time, and if it is it at the time with an exhaust temperature (at the time of full boost) of 800c, it will become 90% or more of rate of purification. MT only(GGA).

but I have been told that it needs a different front section pipe or adaptor(?)as the zerosports is designed for JDM cars that have 2 cats (as opposed to EU ones that have 3)

Prodrive Sports Cat DP will fit as will the H&S etc (I have H&S on mine). But the pre 2.5 DP's are longer and will there for not fit without the same MY rear centre pipe. As a pair they couple up fine to the existing set up but as single parts they cannot be changed.

Default 2.5 WRX Sports cat

Thanks for the reply

When you say i need a matching centre pipe from a similar age car? - can you explain a little more

i have currently fitted a TSL Centre de-resonate section and Group N backbox - i know the TSL centre section bolts directly on to the second cat and this bolts on to the front pipe / cat - when you say i need both bits are you refering to the downpipe cat and the 2nd decat section?

Your help is much apreciated

Does anyone know why Prodrive haven't produced a downpipe for the 2.5 engine? Only the front-mid section and backbox parts are changed as part of the PPP (apart from teh recalibrated ECU and high-flow intercooler pipe)

You don't need to change to the STI Pinks as what is fitted to the 2.5 WRX is more than capable of delivering the fuel flow for the power you have suggested. So I have been told

tD05 -18G is a good choice and also a vf43 from a 2.5 STI if you can find one

Anyone got one ??

Regards

Nige.

Mike Wood of Prodrive mentioned overboosting issues when trying a sports cat during PPP development.
Mapping of my car (Zen) with a decat had overboosting under control, so I'm not sure why Prodrive couln't resolve it.

The price of a sports cat on an already expensive (compared with previous PPPs) hawkeye package may have been another factor.

The target HP may also have been reached easily without resorting to a sports cat - so why complicate the package?
