Default 100% methanol

Has anyone done this on here?

I'd be particularly interest to hear peoples' views & experiences with things like corrosion, mpg & effect on engine internals using high % meth mix.

You will find you have a higher octane with a methanol / petrol mix than just pure methanol

With methanol about for 60p a litre I'd love to run my car on 100% meth & add a splash of vpower for track days.

20% is more than enough for fun. Cheers Martyn

I think methanol is 114 octane & petrol is 98 so I'm not sure mixing petrol with methanol would increase octane past 114. The performance gain by using petrol & methanol is petrol gives a higher calorific burn than methanol.

That's my understanding anyway

You'll also need to double your injector capacity, as you'll use about twice as much, I know Andy does

Your welcome m8 , fyi 20% Meth in 98 octane fuel gives a rough octane of 101.4...

from what i know although i may be wrong you cant run it on 100% methanol as unleaded petrol has lubricants in it which the engine requires to run correctly and safely

Ever thought of going LPG, it's 52.9p/litre up here is Barnsley. Lower calorific value but octane rating of 110RON.

Where are you getting it for 60p a litre as it works out at £1 a litre when you buy 200litres from jennychem.

Steve, you need to forget to call Jennychem for a little while.
They will price match and then some to prevent trade going elsewhere
Im at 58ppl but I have to time deliveries with their own courier, oh the hardship

Way back in time

22B Bulletin Board: Methanol octane booster?

"Anhydrous methanol's RON/MON is 106/92. The blending octane is 133/105 (ie the effective/apparent octane when mixed with petrol). This is still not the full story though as it does not take into account the use of other additives"

Yes I have thought of that but decided against it due to expensive install & additional weight gain.

Interesting reading, but they only seemed to use a low percentage back then.

You should see around a 5-10% improvement in power/torque

Ideally, yes.

A 5% mix of methanol can add some det protection for track days but I would check with your mapper first to make sure it isnt going to lean it out too much.

been an increase in cars being mapped by www.enginetuner.co.uk in recent months, that is what i was referring to.

I do realise it isnt new, but recent useage has increased.

Yes it is added to the tank , on the paticular car mentioned in this thread we gained approx 15%...
We gained 8% before any additional ignition timing was put in ..

Could I just add Methanol to my usual petrol for say track days and expect it all to be fine or does it need to be added only without mapping? Any other mods needed?

I use lab grade methanol at work a lot i'm sure they wouldn't mind if a bottle of two went missing.
