Default Launchcontrol

Does anybody use a launchcontrol for a long period of time?
Does it harm the turbo?
What about flatshifting without stepping off the throttle, I think there will be fuelcut and ignitioncut to allow this, isnīt it?

Iīm refering to this one: Gizzmo Launch Controller Interface

I know many guys using different launchcontrols on dragstrip, but not especially this one!

Any advice much appriciated!

Well, you really can't use launch control for any length of time - you only get it to use when getting ready to launch. It should not be too hard on the turbo, most launch control is basically controlled misfires at the launch RPM. You're more likely to damage the clutch/driveshaft while launching.

Yes flat shifting will be implemented by an ignition and fuel cut but generally much softer than the one you get when using launch control.

What car do you have? The newage cars can be reflashed to have launch control, checkout openecu.org for a cheap solution.

I have got a WRX MY00 with uprated engine and big turbo.
Good to hear nothing getīs really harmed, as I do not want to destroy the turbo, was not a cheap one!
I have a 6 speeder and read about damaged synchros because of flatshifting...
I think it depends, weather you misshift sometimes or get used to and select gears faultless, isnīt it?!
I just wanted to know about the specific Gizzmo launch control and flatfootshifting mechanism, if someone used it some time without problems.

Of course I would only use it on the dragstrip and only for a maximum of 5s. when starting and doing the full throttleshifts then!
Must be fun and saves some time, right?!

But as I said, I do not want to harm anything as itīs my daily driver too!

Yup that'll do it , thats why I have never tried flat shifting If its a daily driver why push it to its limits ???

Cos it is amazing fun

Not saying that I dont dip the clutch to change gear, but keeping your foot buried in the floor is really rather special as the turbo is still making 1.8 bar of boost

I think you have to push the clutch for shifting anyways, but leaving the foot on the throttle will save some time on catching the revs up and building up boost again, isnīt it?

And regarding the synchros will this not only be when you misshift?

Is the launchcontrol building up boost on standing start a problem for the turbo and shorten itīs life, like using antilag?

I think the Gizzmo unit does the harming ignitioncut, isnīt it?
But I do not understand why ignitioncut is worse than fuelcut?
If the fuel doesnīt burn itīs okay imho, but if there is no fuel to burn it will detonate with the unburnt fuel staying in the pistonroom, isnīt it?

unburnt fuel in a red hot exhaust...... not a recipe for long lasting turbos.

Fuel cut is the way to do this.

Thanks for the explaination, think I got it!

But for starting and doing this for only 2-5seconds, it should not make a big problem, isnīt it?!
Flatshifting will be also no big problem, as itīs just for less than a second to get into the next gear...
