any probs with 1997 version i know about drone at motorway speeds anything else that different to new age sti and is dccd manual via thumbwheel?
martin
Not sure about drone at motorway speeds but mine revs its nuts off...and yes the dccd is manual.
Yes, surely the 'drone' is due to the racket of the Type RA's high revving engines? They have even shorter gears (2nd to 5th) than the already short ones of the vanilla STi's, which in turn are shorter than the WRXs!. Plus Type RA's and R's have mental high revving 4.444:1 rear diffs to boot!
As a comparison, my 1993 WRX pulls 70mph at c.4k rpm, whereas Type RA's would be sitting in region of 5k or more! IIRC.
I wouldnt call the the engine revving high drone....The only drone i get is from the After burner vortex.
When i had the WRX RA it had a HKS silent hi-power and was almost quiet on the motorway, still revved its nuts off tho...

No, I agree with you
It's just that the OP may not be 'used' to the high revving engine and regarding it as a drone, and therefore thinking something's not right
